21st Little Britain Challenge Cup

Race 2 Friday 12th September. Bandito in second place mixing it with the big class 1 boys.

In early September Baker Stickland and Baker Stickland Environmental combined forces to mount our

1st ever forage into the Little Britain Challenge Cup, and what a great event. Despite the lack of wind over the Friday and Saturday the organisers managed to get four races out of the five completed and much more besides.

The event is specifically for the Construction Industry and is the second biggest Sailing Regatta in the UK, second only to Cowes week.

Held at Cowes, and utilising the amazing Solent waters, the 21st Little Britain was a resounding success with 247 boats taking part and over 2000 crew. The logistics of organising the racing the catering and the BAR…………….was magnificently managed by the LBCC committee, staff and contractors.

Baker Stickland, and their yacht Bandito, managed, despite a mixed ability crew, and a poor start, to go from 11th on the Thursday to a magnificent 3rd overall in IRC class 2, showing how much improvement the crew made in such a limited number of races. Even the LBCC media boys were impressed……………..

From the LBCC web site;

"IRC Class 2

Galliford Try were not going to give up their Class 2 crown without a fight, and their victory in the last race kept them in the running. However, the Hoare Lea team on Quokka have been the most consistent finishers this week and deservedly take the overall class prize. Meanwhile, Bandito's never say die attitude after a terrible start saw them claim third spot overall. "

"Bandito's never say die attitude” what a great accolade to the Baker Stickland crew.

A really fantastic event. Will we be back next year?, you better believe it. (assuming the Banks haven't finished us all off.)
